Daft Punk in 1997.

The problem with listicles is that what they really demand of your time is all of it. Who needs to schedule another two days of listening on someone else’s say-so? Well . . . I did, anyway, when last weekend I decided to get to cases on The Guardian’s recent list of “100 Best Musical Performances on the BBC”—five of which count, to my ear, as DJ sets of the type I write about here. (I’m making an exception for one—more below.) One reason to single them out in the larger company of this list is for what it says about how DJ sets fit into the bigger picture of pop-music historiography.
