As some of you may already be aware, I recently signed with Hachette to write my next book, my second for them: a history of L.A. rock in the shape of Lou Adler’s career, titled, what else, California Dreamin’. I’m excited, not least because I love doing research. Over the past couple weeks, that’s largely taken the shape of going through old issues of Billboard, archived at the phenomenal World Radio History, and looking for related items. But starting in 1974, I was also noticing, and screenshooting, the occasional, then increasingly frequent, disco pieces and ads as well.
