A handful of recent off-cuts: Shirley & Company and 'Lollapalooza'

I tend, as a rule, to write long and cut, and I anticipate the same thing will happen when I write for other editors. That proved to be the case twice over in the last couple of weeks, for pieces that were recently published—one my own, the other a group affair. No complaints in either case—the finished pieces are stronger as a result. But the off-cuts are pretty good, too, so I’ll share them below.
