An oral history of the legendary Minneapolis punk-etc. venue

In late 2022, someone I knew online sent out a letter asking for pitches. There was an old rock magazine being revived, and they wanted features. Over the course of a couple weeks, I pitched an oral history of the Triple Rock Social Club and got a yes. Over the next couple months, I reported and wrote it and turned it in. (I used some of the off-cuts in this piece for The Current, as well.) As I finished going over the final edits with the magazine’s EIC (who, for the record, changed about four words), I asked about another pitch in the same vein—a pitch that the EIC had actually suggested himself. And then a strange thing happened: For no reason whatsoever, he looked at me as if I’d murdered his dog and brusquely ended the conversation. (Once again: I’d asked him a follow-up question about his suggestion.) I never heard from him or the magazine again—ever. So if you want to pay someone to read it, pay me: I’m running it myself now, just to spite them. Byeeeee.
